Zach Bryan: The Quittin’ Time Tour

Irmak Kucukaksoy, Grade 10

Country music singer-songwriter Zach Bryan, whose new album debuted at the top of the pop charts, came to Pittsburgh on March 9th.

Bryan performed at PPG Paints Arena on March 9th. The tour’s first night had special guest Kacey Musgraves, who left stunned. Bryan and Musgraves duet together, “I Remember Everything” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September. According to americansongwriter.com, he also played an unreleased song that he will be putting on his next album.

Before attending the concert, Lili Levkulich, a 10th grader and Zach Bryan fan at CAPA, eagerly awaited his Pittsburgh performance.  Getting tickets was a struggle, she said, as “the website kept crashing and the prices were expensive.” This is not the first time Ticketmaster was a hassle. The Taylor Swift concert sold tens of thousands of tickets, and Ticketmaster kept crashing.

The dress code also fits the country theme. Lili Levkulich said, “I’m probably going to wear cowboy boots and a flowy dress.”

As for the show itself, according to the New York Times, the show is very alive, and the harmony is emotional. His band has amazing musical arrangements, syncing harmony to his sandpapered voice.

Bryan’s lyrics are authentic, and his songs tell stories.  According to biography.com, he is best known for his song “Something in the Orange.” In August, he released an album, titled Zach Bryan, featuring collaborations with Kacey Musgraves, The Lumineers, The War and Treaty. His songs are widely streamed, and his Most Streamed Songs were listened to over 1 billion times. Many fans say he is bringing back country music.

Zach Bryan had an unexpected rise to fame. He grew up in Oklahoma and served in the Navy. He was honorably discharged from the Navy to pursue his music career. His first album was DeAnn, named after his late mother. According to the New York Times, in 2015 he started posting clips of himself singing online. His big break came in 2019 when his song “Heading South” went viral. He has since won awards for his music, being named the 2023 ACM New Male Artist of the Year and being nominated for the 2023 Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance.
